Tintoreras Islet
Las Tintoreras is one of the most well-known places of Isabela Island. This small islet receives its name from the reef sharks also known as white-tip sharks that can be seen swimming along with fish and sea lions in the channels when the tide is low. To get there we will need to navigate approximately 10 minutes from the port. The islet is mainly formed by lava rocks. This is the classic beauty spot of the Isabela Island. The view from the top of the Tintoreras canal and the volcanic landscape is spectacular. Excellent snorkelling site around the coast, a good site for fish and White-tipped Reef Shark.
- Starts: 08h00 AM
- End: 11h00 PM aprox
The tour begins at the main passenger dock where a small boat will be boarded to go to the islet "Las Tintoreras". This islet offers a diverse life starting from iguanas that are usually in the stones, Blue-footed and even penguins that approach curious visitors. The islet is located south of Puerto Villamil in the Isabela Island about 10 minutes by navigation from the pier. On this site there is a clear water crack that occasionally houses a large number of sharks "Tintoreras" (Triaenodon obesus), which come to this site to rest and swim.
After the walk we will enjoy snacks prepared by the crew and then we will have the beginning of the aquatic activity to observe part of the wonderful marine life that Galápagos offers us. Reef fish, turtles, sharks, rays, and penguins can be seen here frequently.
It should be noted that the penguin population is found throughout the bay of Puerto Villamil and especially among the islets of Tintoreras and around. During this activity visitors will have necessary equipment such as mask, snorkel, and wetsuit during the cold season.
To finish the tour, we will return to the boat to go to Puerto Villamil.
