SIERRA NEGRA VOLCANO
This volcano at the southeastern end of Isabela has the largest caldera in diameter of any in Galápagos, measuring 10 km by 9 km. It is well worth a visit for the scenery, the volcanic activity and the vegetation. You may also be fortunate to come across a Giant Tortoise. Volcán Chico on the northeast side of the caldera is an area of fumaloric activity and to the west there is the "Mina de Azufre" or sulphure mine, where there is more fumaloric activity and sulphur deposits.

The expedition to the Sierra Negra volcano is unparalleled thanks to the scenery that can be experienced. To begin the explorers will be picked up by bus from their hotelsaround 7am to start the journey to the starting point of the trail on the slopes of the volcano.
Once in the control booth "El Cura" begins the walk borderingthe eastern side of the caldera to "Los Jaboncillos", the excursion is 8km. Upon reaching the top the guide will provide an explanation of several points inside and at the edge of the caldera that may be of great interest to visitors.
You have to consider going prepared as the weather is a surprise factor in this expedition, however, there is almost always time for a good photo with clear skies.
The Sierra Negra caldera is 10 km in diameter and is the second largest active boiler in the world. This volcano is considered to be the oldest of Isabela's volcanoes.
The Chico Volcano is located northeast of the Sierra Negra Volcano at an altitude of 860 meters above sea level.
To finish we will return in our transport to your hotel in Puerto Villamil.
